Silicon Valley single serve coffee maker startup of 100% Kona coffee pods and award-winning teas Pooki’s Mahi announced today it pruned its 4.5 oz., 5.5 oz. and 10 oz. macadamia nuts products and will sell through the remaining inventory in preparation for a private beta to improve the snack product line. The overall goal is to finalize the tropical snack mixes, packaging sizes and go-to-market launch activities for the wholesale channel.
“Once a product line is launched we immediate measure key performance indicators every quarter to determine how early to retire or replace products (in the product line). There are two key reasons to prune existing product lines. First, the products’ sales performance is not where it needs to be and falls short on expectation. Second, the supplier or supply chain ecosystem cannot support pilot, sales and go-to-market activities. For the first reason, Pooki’s Mahi’s existing customers provided valuable feedback on price points. For the second reason partnerships with suppliers work bi-directionally. If multiple communications are needed from Pooki’s Mahi to obtain an update, then the partnership is one-way,” says Pooki’s Mahi Founder/CEO Les Magsalay-Zeller.
She explains, “Pooki’s Mahi has a lengthy process to assess suppliers. Ease to process orders and how easy Pooki’s Mahi fulfillment teams receive a supplier’s products are important. Mistakes and slowing down Pooki’s Mahi’s fulfillment teams are not favorable to the supplier’s evaluation.”
Les excitedly continues, “Pooki’s Mahi’s corporate and wholesale customers requested for tropical snack mixes in smaller sizes. It’s easier for wholesalers and distributors to introduce snack pack sizes to corporate cafeterias, travelers, and retail food stores. Exciting times at Pooki’s Mahi and I can’t wait to launch new snack offerings in 2015.”
