Pooki’s Mahi ground rules ensures consistent execution from supply chain and go to market launch teams.

The purpose of our “Guide To Pooki’s Mahi Private Label Manufacturers Manifesto” is to set the ground rules for new customers before Pooki’s Mahi can manufacture private label coffee pods, private label teas or custom promotional products for a customer’s private label brand.  Our private label manifesto’s lists the BOM (bill of material) items required from new customers to launch private label brands, private label coffees, or private label teas as custom promotional products prior to using Pooki’s Mahi patented framework.  

Private Label Manufacturers

Pooki’s Mahi vetted 50+ private label manufacturers for our prized Kona coffee pods, private label teas, private label Kona coffee pods and custom promotional products since 2011. Private label manufacturers in the food industry are in “dinosaur” times and are very slow to adapt to technologies commonly used by the high tech industry.

Common issues with private label manufacturers vetted by Pooki’s Mahi:

  1. Lack of technology to manage the business - API, standard ERP, MRP, WMS, PLM
  2. Lack of transparency
  3. Inflexible schedules - 16 weeks or else (“my way or the high way”)
  4. Extremely poor website design leading to sub-par customer experiences
  5. Dishonest accounting - hidden charges found in during an account or quarter business reviews
  6. Lack of security - Pooki’s Mahi products “mysteriously disappeared” before transportation team picked up the shipping container.
  7. Adding unapproved BOM (Bill of Material) components without Pooki’s Mahi executive team approval.
  8. Falsifying schedules - 2 weeks does not mean 16 weeks for product readiness.
  9. Cyber-criminal activities - scraping emails and selling to suppliers or vendors
  10. Cyber-criminal activities - charging incorrect amounts for services not rendered
  11. Cyber-bullying activities with the intent to kill Pooki’s Mahi business or create irreparable harm


Pooki’s Mahi’s Experience:  Larger single serves coffee pods manufacturers

Larger manufacturers require 25,000 pods to over 1 million single serves before initiating a conversation with a prospective custom coffee pods buyer. Estimate an average of 10-12 back/forth conversations before obtaining the required information from the prospective coffee pods manufacturer.  Plan on an average of 8 weeks before obtaining lids from overseas pods manufactures and about 2 weeks for production and co-packing.  Customers are charged an enormous fee to expedite the order. Be prepared for unprofessional (cyber-harrassment or cyber-bully) tactics from coffee pods manufactures:  very aggressive sales calls for larger orders, 3-5 calls per week following up breaking the RFP (Request For Proposal) agreement, and running negative reviews.

Pooki's Mahi owns our supply chain (from soup to nuts) - not the manufacturer.  

Pooki’s Mahi had horrible experiences with 12+ coffee pods manufacturers between since 2012 when Pooki’s Mahi’s Founder/CEO laid the foundation for our popular 100% Kona coffee pods product line. Approved single serves manufacturers are required to go through Pooki’s Mahi’s RFI (Request For Information for an initial assessment for cultural fit) and  RFP (Request For Proposal to measure coffee pods manufacturers capabilities and cultural fit).  Manufacturers will always blame the customer and never address manufacturing issues raised by Pooki's Mahi Founder/CEO.

Coffee pods manufacturers are required to sign off on all agreements including the FAI (First Article Inspections).


  1. A west coast based coffee pods manufacturer “stuffed” (included) two unapproved marketing collateral.  
  2. An east coast based pods manufacturer wasn’t certified, not an approved manufacture for Trader Joe’s and engaged in brand harassment and character assassination at several trade shows

Ground Rules & Expectations From Customers:

Pooki’s Mahi specializes in private label manufacturing 100% Kona coffee pods, tea flavors in single serves.  Pooki’s Mahi patented framework for new product launches to market ensures our supply chain is consistent. We are selective on which vendors or suppliers are used to private label manufacture products.


Private Label Products:

Pooki’s Mahi has strict requirements for private label products.  Pooki’s Mahi expects private label customers to have the following BOM (Bill of Materials) ready for production or for discussion prior to designing private label coffee pods or private label tea for private label brands:

  1. Established sales channels (marketplaces falls in the B2C channel)
  2. Shelf Ready (SR) or ecommerce approved packaging
  3. Film design covering the front  and back of the individually wrapped pods
  4. Scan ready UPC labels with the required product information
  5. UPC certificate provided by the product information authority
  6. Ship ready marketing assets designed with the customer’s private label brand colors and product marketing messaging.
  7. Ship to location
  8. Payment required at checkout

Pooki’s Mahi will not work with customers who nickle/dime every bill of material components or break the Zero Tolerance Cyber-Bullying Policy.  Pooki’s mahi will never make this type of customer happy; customer will engage in cyber-bullying and will always complain.


Custom Promotional Products:

Customers are unable to meet the minimum requirements or cannot afford private label pods pricing or is should consider the promotional products option.  Pooki’s Mahi expects customers to have the following BOM (Bill of Materials) ready for production prior to designing custom promo products or marketing gifts using our private label tea or 100% Kona coffee pods:

  1. Film design covering the front and back of the individually wrapped pods.
  2. Ship ready marketing assets designed with the customer’s marketing gift or event message.
  3. Ship to location
  4. Payment required at checkout

Pooki’s Mahi custom products will ship in an ecommerce ready box with Pooki’s Mahi colors, design and UPC.  It is designed to give away to employees as a corporate gift, marketing gift or to help launch an event or new product launches.

Customers:  Private Label or Promotional Swag

Customers come to Pooki’s Mahi to manufacture private label products to sell such as 100% Kona coffee pods, custom tea blends or for private label brands:

  1. Consistent new product launches
  2. Efficient supply chain with attention to the fine details.
  3. Transparent pods pricing includes the entire cost to manufacture private label products to sell or marketing gift for an event or launch new products.
  4. WYSWYG - What You See What You Get - Honest, direct communication to the true cost from a private label manufacturer’s point of view.


Pooki’s Mahi Private Label Commitment

Pooki’s Mahi’s private label and custom promotional products are hosted on a separate platform.  Accounts are required to check out.  Private label accounts will not work on


Pooki’s Mahi’s private label and custom promotional products platform is designed for customers who are self-sufficient and do not require a lot of guidance.  Private label customers know what they want.  

What Pooki’s Mahi will do for private label customers:

  1. A Pooki’s Mahi customer success team member will reach out to the customer.
  2. Customer will receive a product mock up of the pouch using the images uploaded by the customer.
  3. Reconfirmation of the order for 100% Kona coffee pods or custom tea blends.
  4. Estimated delivery updates
  5. Ensure private label orders are manufactured according to spec and passes our stringent FAI process.
  6. Provide 1 box (shelf ready box) as a retail sample to the Lower 48 USA states.  Customers must pay for shipping additional samples.  
  7. Assist custom promotional products customers with design tweeks.

What Pooki’s Mahi will NOT do for private label customers:

  1. Hard sales - Customers will not receive phone calls from a Pooki’s Mahi wholesale team member.
  2. Call customers - Pooki’s Mahi has a Zero Tolerance Policy against telemarketers.  Pooki’s mahi interprets calling a customer without an active (paid) order to sell or upsell as telemarketing.
  3. Design private label coffee pods or private label tea flavors. Customers need to purchase design services (first).

  • Luxury designer coffee pods or custom tea blends - Individually Wrapped - Work in most 1.0 and 2.0 single serve coffee makers (Kitchen-Aide®, Bunn®, Breville®, Cuisinart® and others)

  • % Kona Coffee:  Five (5) different 100% Kona coffees - Kona medium roast, Kona Estate Extra Fancy, Kona Decaffeinated coffee, Kona French Roast, Kona Peaberry

  • Customers have better interaction with Pooki’s Mahi coffee pods or single serves. Customers can see the coffee grinds or tea leaves.  Customers are able to smell the Kona coffee pods after unwrapping the individual wrapper.
  • Allergy Information:  This product is prepared and packaged in machines not in contact with  wheat/gluten, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, eggs, milk, soy.
