Summary: Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller Komo Kitty℠ Project curves abusive customers looking for complimentary 100% Kona coffee pods, Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules to resell by restricting product sampling to larger customers and VIP distributors resellers.
San Francisco, CA April 24th, 2019
Silicon Valley startup Pooki’s Mahi® announced today the improved product sampling policies designed by Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller through Komo Kitty℠ private label services and MeowHattan℠ Project landed larger customers and VIP distributors resellers while protecting the brand from abusive customers looking for complimentary 100% Kona coffee pods, Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules to resell.
Pooki’s Mahi Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller explains, “I turned a 2018 supply chain FUBAR into an opportunity to reset Pooki’s Mahi operations with a Just In Time (JIT) supply chain model using existing processes, systems, and protected intellectual property I developed. I manage Pooki’s Mahi® supply chain including sourcing raw goods. Pooki’s Mahi JIT manufacturing model enables the company to control costs, manage inventory turns effectively, and to offer fresh roasted products to existing customers consistently. Pooki’s Mahi has strict policies governing the type of customers approved for complimentary product samples.”
“Scrupulous attention to detail is used to determine qualified resellers requesting to sell Pooki’s Mahi® brands. Customers matching Pooki’s Mahi luxury customer profile are successful in selling luxury Pooki’s Mahi 100% Kona coffee pods or Kafpresso™ Nespresso coffee pods. Resellers whose customers’ profile do not match any of Pooki’s Mahi existing customer profiles will not be successful in selling our products. The large customers headquartered in the US that previously rejected Pooki’s Mahi in 2013 want Pooki’s Mahi product catalog. National chains are looking to expand their customer base by offering unique products like Pooki’s Mahi Kona coffee pods or Kafpresso Nespresso coffee pods,” the Silicon Valley technology executive continues.
“I presented Pooki’s Mahi® product lines to multi-national corporations in 2013. I landed some large customers. Pooki’s Mahi luxury Kona coffee pods and Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules were rejected by several large global customers who didn’t want to deal with start-ups or a Founder/CEO that never launched consumer products goods (CPG). I also learned very quickly. Large customers asked for a 40% discount to merchandise, fulfill and distribute Pooki’s Mahi products. Executives and decision makers at large customers where I presented Pooki’s Mahi luxury Kona coffee pods or Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules were not technologists. Decisions to carry or not carry Pooki’s Mahi Kona coffee pods were made on opinions on packaging design, margins, and the amount of work needed to keep me from accessing big data sets. For Pooki’s Mahi Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules the decision was based on how much margins I was willing to lose,” says Pooki’s Mahi Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller.
Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller improved Pooki’s Mahi product sampling policies to prevent unauthorized firms from reselling any of the company’s 100% Kona coffee pods, Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules or Kafpresso™ coffee capsules for profit on marketplaces like Amazon. Certificate of Insurance is required to resell Pooki’s Mahi 100% Kona coffee pods, Kafpresso coffee capsules, or Matcha Matcha Man tea capsules. Previous product sampling efforts did not yield favorable results for Pooki’s Mahi luxury beverages.
Pooki’s Mahi Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller analyzed data from multiple campaigns launched since 2012. The Silicon Valley executive improved product sampling policies with systems architecture, and cohesive go-to-market plans to launch new products through Pooki’s Mahi MeowHattan℠ Project in mind. The Silicon Valley technology executive was inspired by her time at Fortune 500 companies leading product launch teams. The success of a product line was graded by how well go-to-market teams identified new customers, and the speed to convert new customers receiving complimentary samples into long term subscriptions. The performance-driven company applied a similar approach to convert larger customers and VIP distributors resellers in all sales channels.
Pooki’s Mahi charges a standard $25 fee per box to fulfill and ship one package. Pooki’s Mahi does not include fulfilling special requests. Customer will receive a standard unit found on a retailer’s shelf. Product samples are treated as retail units.
Pooki’s Mahi conducted several “Try It Product Sampling” campaigns on marketplaces, international grocery chains for 100% Kona coffee pods and two different new product launches. Less than 1% of customers in the product sampling campaign converted into a VIP customer. VIP customers purchase six-month coffee subscriptions or become a VIP distributor reseller. Marketing firms selling “Try It Sampling” programs are not a fit for Pooki’s Mahi. Marketing firms lack the platform to target new customers similar to Pooki’s Mahi coffee subscribers at the zip code level.
Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller found that product sampling campaigns are cheaper than other traditional forms of marketing. Customers do not like aggressive sales approaches to purchase products without receiving some value in return. Providing a sample of Pooki’s Mahi Kona coffee pods in hopes of gaining new, loyal customers is more effective than traditional outbound marketing. New customers that fit Pooki’s Mahi customer profile appreciate samples and will purchase a six-month coffee subscription.
Pooki’s Mahi incorporates product sampling into obtaining feedback for new product launches. Pooki’s Mahi introduces newly launched products likes improved Kona KaKao™ coffee pods or Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules to new audiences unfamiliar with the Silicon Valley food and beverage brand. Customers learn about Pooki’s Mahi as a company, popular products like 100% Kona coffee pods, Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules product lines, or Kafpresso™ coffee capsules. New customers also receive insight into Pooki’s Mahi supply chain, private, and manufacturing services.
Pooki’s Mahi will provide one box of 100% Kona coffee pods or Matcha Matcha Man™ tea capsules at no charge to qualified international or national resellers distributors. VIP distributors resellers submit estimated forecast and a minimum order of $85,000 per SKU. Pooki’s Mahi executives review requests for complimentary products throughout the year. Firms must submit applications per Pooki’s Mahi vendor versus supplier process by the 15th of June in the current year. If approved a company representative will sign a legal agreement agreeing to the use of company logos, attribution, and use of Pooki’s Mahi IP.
Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller designed transparency into the company’s performance-driven culture. Pooki’s Mahi will not use aggressive discounting or allocate budget for marketing channels to chase unicorn level conversions. The Silicon Valley technology executive confirmed using traditional sales conversion funnel like coupons, affiliate marketing, print advertising, or media buying yielded inferior results. Pooki’s Mahi luxury CPG 100% Kona coffee pods, and Matcha Matcha Man® tea capsules experienced higher conversions when the Silicon Valley firm owned product merchandising, controlled product sampling campaigns and focused on long term conversions through wholistic go-to-market launch plans.
It costs Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller $700 to manage Pooki’s Mahi product sampling program for new products and to obtain feedback from existing Kona coffee pods. The breakdown is as follows: $65.00 for one box of 100% Kona coffee, $50 to ship the unit, $5 to obtain signature, $120 operations overhead to pick, pack and ship the group, and $520+ to manage product sampling program. It is incredibly challenging to sample expensive products. Pooki’s Mahi does not give away products at zero cost to the customer. Customer is incentivized to spend money.
Pooki’s Mahi does not give out products that are not actually for sale. The Silicon Valley technology firm ran a massive national product sampling program for an extensive customer. One hundred units were shipped to customers that resided in or near specific zip code. One customer purchased a six-month Kona coffee subscription. Less than one percent converted into a long term customer. Pooki’s Mahi tracks shipments to customers participating in product sampling campaigns. It cost Pooki’s Mahi $7000+ to manage the product sampling program.
Traditional product sampling strategy does not work for luxury food and beverage brands that sell exclusively online on their ecommerce site or through marketplaces. Pooki’s Mahi has a strong understanding of their VIP customer base. Founder/CEO Leslie Magsalay-Zeller robust analytical systems approach and execution grew Pooki’s Mahi revenue.
The Silicon Valley-based food and beverage brand have grown without a loan or venture funding. Pooki’s Mahi Founder/CEO takes a high tech approach to develop and launch new products. The technology executive continues to build and improve architecture to support existing ecommerce platforms. Leslie Magsalay-Zeller designs introduce Pooki’s Mahi® product lines and continues to update technology platforms supporting multiple channels. The Silicon Valley startup is focused on manufacturing expensive 100% single origin specialty coffee under its Kona KaKao™, Kafpresso, and Kona Kafpresso brands; as well as Matcha Matcha Man® tea pods.
